San Antonio BEST

Description

San Antonio Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology (SA BEST) annually sponsors a robotics competition for high school age students. The purpose of this competition is to stimulate the interest of area students in science and technology careers. Teams are given a set of rules, a kit of raw materials, radio-control equipment, and six-weeks to build a machine to accomplish a task. Technical professionals, along with parents and teachers, volunteer their time to mentor the students through this process. The resulting machines compete head-to-head in an exciting, sports-like atmosphere. By working closely with the mentors, the students learn about teamwork, brainstorming, fabrication, and applying math and physics skills to practical design problems.
