Mission Statement

To improve Science Education in public schools, which will result in a more scientifically literate society and better educated workforce.

Description

RE-SEED (Retirees Enhancing Science Education through Experiments and Demonstrations) is a Northeastern University program that prepares retired scientists and engineers to work as volunteers with teachers in middle school science classrooms. Volunteers assist science teachers with teaching the basic concepts and principles of the physical sciences using some engineering applications. Over 320 RE-SEED volunteers have worked in schools in nine states throughout the country offering close to 200,00 hours of their time. The rigorous training that the volunteers receive and the extensive time commitment required of them (one day/week for one school year) sets this program apart from other programs involving scientists and engineers.
