Mission Statement
To empower and educate students in coding and technology, promoting community engagement, collaborative learning, and leadership skills in technology.
Description
The Coding Initiative is a student-founded nonprofit based in Houston. We work directly with Spring Independent School District through a formal MOU to provide free, hands-on coding programs for middle and high school students. Our focus is simple: give kids who’ve been left out of tech education a fair shot at learning the skills that shape today’s world.
We teach the basics, Introduction to Python and HTML/CSS, through small group sessions, in and after school. We also provide snacks (because hungry students don’t learn), printed lesson materials (since not all kids can work from devices), and volunteer mentorship.
This work matters. For some students, this is their first exposure to real tech skills. For others, it’s the thing that makes school worth showing up to. We’re trying to meet them where they are, and with this support, we can keep doing it well.
