Mission Statement
The Friends of Jerusalem Mill (FOJM) was incorporated in 1986 by a group of local residents, as a 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) non-profit public charity for the purpose of preserving, restoring, and maintaining the historic Jerusalem Mill Village and using it as a living history destination for public awareness and education. FOJM’s mission is to inspire its community to engage in their shared history through the exploration and preservation of Jerusalem Mill Village and the surrounding Little Gunpowder Falls Valley.
Description
The village began taking shape before Harford County was established, and even before there was a United States of America. Today, the village still includes the Grist Mill, Miller’s House, Blacksmith Forge, Tenant House, McCourtney’s General Store, Jerusalem Mansion, Bank Barn, Springhouse, two-story Smokehouse/Dairy, and another residence. The Jericho Covered Bridge is located adjacent to the village. All of the buildings were built in the 1700s or 1800s, and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. We provide educational opportunities regarding the village's historical, cultural, environmental, and natural resources. As a non-profit public charity, we rely on volunteers and generous donations to accomplish our mission. Our volunteers are our most valuable resource! There's a lot of rewarding work to be done at Jerusalem Mill Village, from building & ground maintenance and restoration to event management and living history, and everything in between.
