Description

For over 30 years, Advokids has been the only statewide non-profit legal advocacy organization in California singularly dedicated to securing the physical safety and emotional well-being of the over 42,000 children in the California foster care system. All children enter the foster care system after experiencing traumatic neglect or abuse. They are removed from their homes and too often face compounding loss and trauma while in the foster care system. We provide expert, no-cost legal instruction, legal information and support to improve the safety net for all children who have suffered, or are at risk of, abuse and neglect. Our services promote health and safety for all children in foster care in California, with a focus on the unique needs of children ages 0-5. Advokids’ legal services and resources empower foster youth, relatives of children in foster care, foster and relative caregivers, child welfare professionals, and concerned community members to engage effectively with child welfare agencies and the juvenile court to share information and concerns about a child. Advokids’ free legal services and legal programs meet the urgent and immediate needs of individual children in foster care while identifying and curing systemic failures for the benefit of all children in foster care in California.
