Mission Statement

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Council (IDD Council) of Tarrant County was founded in January 2015 to serve as a community coalition of providers, public officials, families and self-advocates who come together to increase opportunities for people with IDD. The IDD Council offers several educational trainings, creates awareness, advocates, promotes inclusion, and offers support. Our Mission: To transform the region into an inclusive community where persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) thrive.

Description

Some of our current events include:

Making Connections: Disability Resources for All Ages: Making Connections brings together disability resources in our community to one, easily accessed location for families and caregivers to collect information and learn about the benefits and services each provide.

Be Safe - How to Interact Safely with Police: A training program for law enforcement and training youth with autism and similar disabilities to interact safely with police.

Sensory Santa and Mrs. Claus: Each year, we welcome Mr. and Mrs. Claus to visit with children and adults with disabilities, and their families. Knowing how important this tradition can be for children (and their parents), the IDD Council provides this free event to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus in a sensory friendly environment specially designed for them.

CAPEabilities Job Fair: Connecting All People with Employment, the CAPEabilities Job Fair is provided free and specifically marketed to students and transition age youth with IDD, who are seeking employment or will soon be entering the workforce. In addition to visiting employers hiring people with disabilities, the fair also provides sessions designed to develop and hone interview skills, address proper workplace etiquette, and on-site job sampling opportunities to explore.

Monthly Meet-ups, Education Sessions and More!
