Mission Statement
AfAW addresses water scarcity, food insecurity, and poverty in rural Zambia, where communities face limited access to clean water for domestic and agricultural use. These challenges are exacerbated by climate change that lead to droughts, water scarcity, and environmental degradation. With more than 75% of the population dependent on rainfed agriculture and productive only 4 months during that time, water scarcity and droughts caused by climate change is pushing more people into poverty as they can not even have enough food and incomes out of the months of productivity. AfAW designs and implements solar-powered water integrated infrastructure and systems for rural communities, providing access to clean drinking water and irrigation for agriculture- all year round productivity. By utilizing off-grid solar energy, AfAW ensures sustainable water use while promoting climate-smart farming techniques.
