Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide residents of Chicago's West Side - with emphasis on North Lawndale and East Garfield Park communities - with cross-generational services that: eliminate barriers to accessing our digital society by teaching basic and advanced technical skills, reduce food insecurity by providing free meals and fundamental vegetable gardening and food preparation techniques, and enable educational advancement by delivering tutoring and college readiness programs. The culmination of these activities is a celebratory, community-based, annual parade and picnic in honor of Juneteenth - a celebration of freedom, which is what we aim empower.
Description
The Chicago Juneteenth Project was created to help produce an annual parade in celebration of Juneteenth and extend that service to a variety of services to our community throughout the year. The parade is a celebration of freedom and is open to all. Over the last several years, we've celebrated with hundreds, been covered annually on the local news, and most importantly, are bringing something special to an underserved community. Our parade - and the post-parade community celebration - is where we can use the most support from volunteers. We hope that you consider joining us!
