Position Summary As a Public Relations Intern at Bantucola, you will play a vital role in shaping and amplifying the organization’s message to the public. You will work closely with Bantucola’s communications team to craft compelling narratives that highlight the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses and Bantucola’s contributions to the local economy. Your primary focus will be on media relations, content creation, and community engagement to ensure that Bantucola’s initiatives gain visibility and impact. Key Responsibilities Story Pitching: Research and develop story ideas that showcase Bantucola’s mission, initiatives, and the successes of Black-owned businesses in the community. Press Releases & Media Materials: Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and fact sheets to local and national media outlets. Media Outreach: Contact journalists, bloggers, and influencers to secure media coverage for Bantucola events, partnerships, and business spotlights. Media Tracking & Reporting: Monitor and document media coverage of Bantucola and Black-owned businesses, providing reports on media reach and public sentiment. Messaging & Branding: Assist in crafting consistent and strategic messaging that aligns with Bantucola’s brand and advocacy efforts. Community Engagement: Build relationships with local influencers, business owners, and community leaders to strengthen Bantucola’s public image. Event Support: Help plan and promote press conferences, community events, and networking sessions that support Bantucola’s mission. Social Media Collaboration: Work with the digital marketing team to align PR efforts with social media campaigns. Skills & Qualifications Strong writing and storytelling skills for press releases, media pitches, and reports. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to develop relationships with journalists and stakeholders. Familiarity with media platforms (print, online, radio, and TV) and an understanding of public relations strategies. Ability to research and analyze media trends, ensuring Bantucola’s messaging remains relevant and impactful. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience with public relations tools such as press release distribution services, media databases, or PR tracking software is a plus. Passion for economic empowerment and Black business advocacy is highly desirable. Bantucola is seeking a Marketing and Communications Intern passionate about supporting African American businesses and uplifting the local Black business community. In this role, you will help develop and execute marketing strategies that amplify Bantucola’s mission of advocacy, economic empowerment, and visibility for Black-owned businesses in Pensacola. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and brand storytelling while making a real impact in the community. Duties & Responsibilities: Social Media Management: Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling engaging content across Bantucola’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) to highlight Black-owned businesses and community initiatives. Email Marketing: Support the development of email campaigns via MailChimp, sharing updates, business spotlights, upcoming events, and resources that benefit African American entrepreneurs. Content Creation: Write compelling blog posts, social media captions, press releases, and feature stories that celebrate the success and challenges of Black business owners in Pensacola. Graphic Design & Branding: Use Canva or Adobe Creative Suite to design promotional materials, event flyers, and digital content that align with Bantucola’s brand identity and mission. Website Updates & Business Directory Support: Assist in maintaining website content, ensuring that business listings and community resources remain up-to-date. Community Engagement: Help manage outreach efforts, connect with local business owners, and foster partnerships that support economic development. Marketing Research & Strategy: Analyze marketing trends and social media engagement data to enhance Bantucola’s outreach efforts and provide better visibility for Black-owned businesses. Skills & Qualifications: Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with a passion for storytelling. Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) and scheduling tools (Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite). Familiarity with email marketing platforms like MailChimp. Basic graphic design skills using Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or Illustrator. Ability to analyze digital marketing performance and suggest improvements. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about supporting Black-owned businesses. Knowledge of African American entrepreneurship, business challenges, or economic empowerment initiatives is a plus. Key Responsibilities: Research and Analysis: Conduct research on economic challenges faced by Black-owned businesses, including barriers to funding, regulatory hurdles, and market access. Investigate the impact of gentrification on Black communities, with a focus on Pensacola and the Gulf Coast region. Analyze data on economic disparities, business development trends, and policy measures affecting minority-owned businesses. Policy Development and Advocacy: Assist in drafting policy recommendations to support Black entrepreneurs and combat gentrification.
