Mission Statement

The mission of the Lomita Sister City Association (LSCA) is to strengthen relations between Lomita, California, and Takaishi, Osaka, Japan. Through cultural exchange programs, LSCA aims to promote cultural understanding and cultivate students who return with a new, diverse outlook about the world we live in, while gaining tolerance, social skills, and newfound independence . Since its establishment in 1981, LSCA has facilitated biennial student exchanges, sending approximately eight deserving students and one chaperone to Japan for two to three weeks. In alternate years, LSCA hosts students from Takaishi. These exchanges provide participants with opportunities for growth--culturally, socially, and academically. The interactions and home-stays have offered insights into cultural differences and similarities, fostering close and lasting relationships over a short period .

About the Lomita Sister City Association The Lomita Sister City Association (LSCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering international friendship and cultural exchange between Lomita, California, and its sister city, Takaishi, Osaka, Japan. Since 1981, LSCA has coordinated biennial student ambassador exchange programs that provide youth with immersive cross-cultural experiences through home-stays, school visits, and community activities. In alternating years, Lomita sends a delegation of local students and a chaperone to Japan, and in return, hosts student ambassadors from Takaishi. These exchanges are designed to broaden perspectives, encourage global citizenship, and build lasting friendships. LSCA also engages the community through cultural events, fundraisers, and educational activities that celebrate Japanese culture and strengthen international ties. Through its programs, LSCA empowers young people to develop leadership skills, gain intercultural awareness, and represent Lomita as global ambassadors.
