Mission Statement
The Ruth Collective's mission is to create a grass-roots, nationwide, network of volunteers, who we call "Ruth", to assist those in need of out-of-state access to reproductive or gender-affirming healthcare. Our goal is to leverage each Ruth's expertise and abilities to assist in arranging concierge-style services, such as transportation, lodging, meals, companionship, comfort, and support during their most vulnerable time
Description
The Ruth Collective is a start up nonprofit inspired by the groundwork laid by The Jane Collective beginning in 1969 and the championship by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the rights and equality of women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, several states' anti-abortion trigger laws went into effect, and states are continuing to pass legislation to attack women who seek abortion outside of their home state and attack those who assist them in traveling outside of their home state. Those states that passed abortion amendments since the overturning, are now facing legislatures who are attempting to circumvent their state constitution or pass laws that make access even more difficult, such as passing laws that over-regulate abortion providers, making it too costly for them to remain operating. Along with abortion bans, states have increasingly passed legislation to restrict access to gender-affirming care, including mental healthcare. The transgender and non-binary community face extremely high suicidality rates with reduced and/or limited access to appropriate heath care providers. We will fight, relentlessly, to change those outcomes.
