Join us at this month’s Youth Expo, where TechArts Empowerment Foundation will be hosting an immersive VR experience alongside a mini robotics workshop. We’re seeking two enthusiastic volunteers to help run two simultaneous Oculus VR stations, ensuring every visitor enjoys a seamless, safe, and engaging demo. The L.A. Youth Expo is a free resource fair for young people and their families held at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. It's a city-wide event focused on providing opportunities and resources to youth, including job referrals, workshops, and access to various resources. Key Details: Date: May 31, 2025 Time: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Location: Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (400 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90015) Focus: Job referrals, career and workforce development workshops, mental health resources, arts and culture activities, and more Target Audience: Youth and families Cost: Free Role Overview As a VR Experience Facilitator, you will: Set up & operate one of two Oculus VR headsets and controllers. Guide participants (ages 9-19) through pre-loaded VR demos, explaining controls and answering questions. Ensure safety by supervising use of headsets and sanitizing equipment between sessions. Coordinate breaks with fellow volunteers and core staff so the booth is always staffed. Key Responsibilities Arrive 6 0 minutes before expo opening to help with equipment setup and ambient testing. Run 15 minute sessions back-to-back, helping participants don headsets and navigate the VR environment. Monitor for headset comfort, motion-sickness signs, and proper handling of equipment. Rotate with the other VR volunteer and TechArts team members to cover scheduled breaks evenly. Assist with light booth duties (greeting visitors, handing out flyers, answering basic robotics workshop questions). Qualifications Familiarity with Oculus VR hardware (Rift, Quest, or similar) - setting up, basic troubleshooting, and controller operation. Strong interpersonal skills: comfortable speaking with youth and families. Ability to stand and move around for extended periods (up to 4-5 hours). Reliable, punctual, and able to follow a structured session schedule. Prior volunteer or customer-service experience is a plus, but not required.

Job Title: Welcome & Check-In Crew (Unpaid Volunteer Role) Location: Various Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation Facilities Schedule: Primarily Saturdays, 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM (some weekday shifts may occur) Perks: Free lunch provided TechArts Empowerment Foundation is seeking enthusiastic and detail-oriented volunteers to join our Welcome & Check-In Crew-a vital part of our Mobile STEM Academy experience. You’ll be the first friendly face students and families see as they arrive, helping them get checked in, distributing equipment, creating student IDs, and ensuring everything runs smoothly and professionally. Key Responsibilities: Student Welcome & Check-In: Greet students and families upon arrival with a warm, positive attitude. Check students in using a roster or digital check-in system. Help manage the flow of foot traffic and maintain an organized registration area. Equipment Distribution & Tracking: Issue laptops, robots, and other tech materials to students. Ensure each piece of equipment is logged and associated with the correct student. Assist with collecting parent/guardian signatures on asset agreement forms. Student ID Creation: Take student photos using a smartphone or tablet. Assist with entering student info into our ID badge creation tool. Laminate or print ID cards if equipment is available. Lunch Service Support: Help serve lunch to students and staff. Monitor food stations and assist with cleanup afterward.

This is a paid volunteer position, perfect for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes, wants to support a powerful mission, and appreciates an easygoing, part-time gig. TechArts Empowerment Foundation is seeking reliable, friendly individuals to join our TechArts Stage Crew-the team responsible for transporting, setting up, and breaking down our Mobile STEM Academy learning environments at LA County Parks & Recreation facilities. This is a paid volunteer position, perfect for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes, wants to support a powerful mission, and appreciates an easygoing, part-time gig. Key Responsibilities: Transportation & Logistics: Drive the TechArts cargo van to and from our storage location and the event site. Pick up pre-ordered lunches from local caterers and deliver them to the park location. Load, unload, and transport classroom items (tables, chairs, laptops, displays, supplies). Set-Up Duties: Assemble the mobile classroom space based on provided layouts and checklists. Ensure the learning area is safe, clean, and fully functional before student arrival. Tear-Down Duties: Return to the site after the class ends to disassemble and re-pack all equipment. Return items to storage and complete a simple end-of-day checklist. Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old with a valid California driver’s license and clean driving record. Must be comfortable driving a Ford Transit or similar cargo van. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform active physical tasks. Punctual, dependable, and able to follow instructions and setup diagrams. Good communication and teamwork skills; polite and professional in public spaces.
