Help Shape the Future of Dysautonomia Support About WTFisDys Founded in August 2024, WTFisDys is a rapidly growing nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of those impacted by dysautonomia. With a community of over 100 members and programs that include peer support groups (co-facilitated by an LCSW), caregiver support sessions, an active Discord community with book clubs and interactive events, and adaptive movement classes, we are redefining what it means to connect, support, and empower. The Role We are seeking a passionate volunteer board member to guide our strategic direction and help us scale our impact. As part of the board, you will collaborate in shaping policies, strategizing our growth, and ensuring our initiatives remain both innovative and true to our mission. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership: Provide input on long-term planning and help steer our organization through its next phase of growth. Governance & Oversight: Participate in regular board meetings, contribute to policy development, and ensure fiscal responsibility. Community Ambassadorship: Represent WTFisDys in professional networks and at community events, sharing our story and vision. Collaboration & Innovation: Work alongside fellow board members, leveraging your expertise to refine existing programs and explore new opportunities. Who We're Looking For Experience with Dysautonomia/Chronic Illness: While ideal candidates are familiar with dysautonomia (or directly impacted by it), we also welcome those with broader experience in chronic illness management. Healthcare Professionals & Advocates: Healthcare-adjacent professionals are highly encouraged, but we are equally interested in individuals with lived experience who are passionate about community support. Exceptional Communicators: Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit are essential for effective board engagement. Summary of the Role WTFisDys is seeking a dedicated and empathetic volunteer Support Group Facilitator. In this role, you'll lead peer support groups that offer a safe space for adults with dysautonomia to share their experiences, exchange coping strategies, and provide mutual encouragement. Your guidance will help cultivate a supportive environment where every member feels heard, understood, and empowered. Responsibilities Facilitate Peer Support Groups: Lead regular meetings for our adult support groups, ensuring discussions are respectful, engaging, and productive. Create a Safe Environment: Foster an inclusive atmosphere where members feel comfortable sharing personal experiences and challenges. Encourage Active Participation: Motivate group members to participate, practice active listening, and support each other through shared insights. Guide Relevant Discussions: Initiate and steer conversations on topics ranging from daily coping strategies to long-term well-being practices. Collaborate with Founders and Moderators: Work closely with the founder and other team members to continuously improve group dynamics and overall program success. Ensure Confidentiality: Uphold a strict standard of privacy and respect for all members’ personal stories and experiences. Qualifications Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication abilities-both speaking and listening-are essential to guide group dynamics effectively. Empathy and Insight: A genuine understanding of the challenges associated with dysautonomia or chronic illness. Previous experience in a similar role or support group setting is a plus. Organizational Capability: Reliability and punctuality with the commitment to facilitating regular sessions. We’re looking for a creative and proactive Social Media Manager to help us increase our reach and build a vibrant online community. What You’ll Do: Platform Leadership: Take charge of our existing LinkedIn presence and launch our Instagram account to showcase the empowering stories and goings-on at WTFisDys. Content Creation: Design and create engaging posts using our professional Canva account and brand kit. Enjoy the creative freedom to weave narratives that highlight community connection, personal resilience, and advocacy for dysautonomia. Consistent Engagement: Develop and publish two thoughtful posts per week, designed to inform, inspire, and invite conversation from our growing community. Collaboration & Autonomy: Work closely with our team to brainstorm and align content with our mission. Ideally, you’ll manage both content creation and posting-but if you prefer a collaborative approach, we’re happy to support and adapt. Who You Are: Passionate about health advocacy and community building, with an eye for narrative-driven design. Experienced with Instagram and LinkedIn-ready to reinvigorate our current LinkedIn page and establish a new presence on Instagram. Proficient in Canva or similar design tools, and comfortable navigating social platforms with a strategic yet creative mindset. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and excited to help expand our community’s reach with innovative digital storytelling.
