Mission Statement

We are an educational nonprofit dedicated to environmental stewardship and the provision of retreat facilities/resources and peace trainings. Our all-volunteer staff manages 485 acres of coastal redwood hills in northern California using restorative land management techniques with a focus on prescribed fire.

Description

Established in 2003, we transformed a former 'fire camp' into a beautiful and affordable retreat center. We have hosted thousands of guests through our rental group activity, including veterans ,12-steppers, at-risk youth, college students, environmental workshops etc. Most rental guests have been repeat visitors for years.

Hundreds of guests and volunteers have joined our programs on Buddhism and land management. People from all backgrounds come to us, not just Buddhists.

There are two organic gardens, where we are now looking to increase food production. Our meals are prepared from unprocessed ingredients. We have spent several years using prescribed fire on the land, and trained dozens of people in this work. We plan to continue restorative forestry and opening up grasslands, for enhanced biodiversity. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we installed a solar power system that provides about five-sixths of our power needs. Acting on our responsibility to care for the land, and cultivating mindfulness, creates hope and resilience. Our aspiration is that people leave the center restored and inspired, better able to bring strength, steadiness and joy to their family and communities.
