Mission Statement
The mission of ACLA is to Inspire people to value architecture, empowering all to create a better Los Angeles: one student, one building, one community at a time.
Description
Architecture for Communities Los Angeles (ACLA), founded in 2020 by the American Institute of Architects | Los Angeles, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission of making architecture and design accessible to everyone, particularly underserved youth. We empower individuals to shape their communities, promote social and environmental justice, and inspire future generations to actively engage in building a better future for all.
ACLA operates across three core mission areas, delivering free educational programs:
Inspiring K-12 students and their families through hands-on architecture and design programs. Our goal is for every K-12 student in Los Angeles to learn about architecture and allied careers.
Educate future architects by supporting community college and university students with mentorships, exhibitions, scholarships, and professional development.
Engage communities to empower residents in architectural decision-making and foster informed participation in community-driven initiatives.
Since 2020, ACLA has served over 5,000 K-12 students and awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships. With our new Center for Communities in West Adams, we are expanding opportunities for Angelenos to explore architecture, engage in creative education, and participate in community-building initiatives.
