Mission Statement
Be a voice for children in our community. North Carolina Guardian ad Litem (GAL) equips community volunteers to serve abused and neglected children by advocating for their best interests in court.
Description
Established by statute in 1983, the North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program has been serving North Carolina’s abused and neglected children for more than 40 years.
Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute ยง 7B-601, when a petition alleging abuse or neglect of a juvenile is filed in district court, the judge appoints a volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) advocate, an Attorney Advocate, and GAL Staff to provide team representation to the child. Guardian ad Litem Child Advocates are trained, supervised, and supported by Program Staff in each county of the state.
Become a champion for children by volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) child advocate! By dedicating a few hours a week, you can make a difference by serving as a GAL or a pro bono attorney. With thorough training and ongoing support, you’ll be equipped to advocate effectively and ensure that every child's voice is heard. Ready to take the next step?
