Meals on Wheels West is looking for volunteers to make meal deliveries through our "Delivering More Than a Meal" program on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays in Santa Monica. Why: No matter why a person is homebound - chronic illness, frailty, disability, recent surgery or other physical or mental health issues they face two major difficulties: poor nutrition and isolation. Meals on Wheels West volunteers help prevent both by Delivering More Than a Meal to homebound people of all ages and incomes. The nutritious meals and Wellness Checks that you deliver promote the stability, health, and wellness our our homebound, and often times lonely, community members. Who: Meals on Wheels West provides nutritious meals and a daily visit to people who are homebound and unable to shop and cook for themselves on a permanent or temporary basis. What to Expect: As an "Adopt-a-Day Delivery Driver", you will be delivering nutritious meals and Wellness Checks to our homebound neighbors in need. An Adopt-a-Day Volunteer adopts a route one day a week (but not a specific route). The day chosen will be the same each week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday), and you will be assigned whichever route opens up that day. Volunteers love this because of the variety and getting to see different members of the community. The meals that you will deliver consist of hot lunches, cold trays, breakfast, milk, fruit, and frozen meals (on select days). Each route has an average of 10-15 homebound clients who would otherwise be food insecure. What's Required: Weekly availability on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays between 10:45 am - 1:45 pm. A route takes approximately 1 - 2 hours to complete. While we welcome any time you can give, we are especially seeking volunteers who can commit to serving with us on a consistent basis, such as weekly or every other week. This consistency helps us build stronger relationships with our clients and ensures the reliable support they depend on. Delivery volunteers must have a valid drivers license. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adult volunteers must undergo a background check which can take up to a week. Please note: All volunteers must complete the full onboarding process before coming to our office to volunteer. If you have not been in contact with our team, please wait until you receive confirmation and instructions. Have Questions or Need Accommodation? Email the Opportunity Coordinator below. This opportunity is managed by an L.A. Works partner, Meals on Wheels West. All volunteers participating in this volunteer opportunity are expected to adhere to the health and safety guidelines outlined here: /www.laworks.com/health-and-safety _____________________________________________________________________ By clicking "Express Interest" I certify I have read and agree to the Volunteer Terms and Conditions.
