Volunteer Position: Bookkeeper Hours: 10 hours per month Location: Kansas City (local preferred) Reports To: Executive Director About The Resilient Activist The Resilient Activist is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering environmental activists and individuals facing eco-anxiety, grief, and burnout. Our mission is to foster emotional resilience, community well-being, and sustainable living practices. Through programs, workshops, and educational resources, we help people find balance in their personal and collective advocacy efforts, supporting them in their work toward environmental justice and sustainability. Position Overview We are seeking a volunteer Bookkeeper to assist with the financial management of The Resilient Activist. This role involves managing day-to-day financial tasks, ensuring that records are accurate, and preparing reports for our monthly board meetings. The Bookkeeper will play a key role in helping us maintain financial health and transparency, which is crucial to sustaining our mission. Responsibilities: Prepare financial reports for the monthly board meetings, summarizing income and expenses. Make bank deposits and manage cash flow. Pay bills in a timely manner, ensuring that all financial obligations are met. Enter financial data into accounting software (QuickBooks or similar). Ensure all financial records are accurate and up-to-date. Support the Executive Director with any additional financial tasks as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Residency in the Greater Kansas City area. Experience in bookkeeping or accounting, ideally with nonprofit organizations. Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar). Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information. Our mission is to help people build emotional resilience, foster well-being, and promote sustainable living practices. Through our programs, workshops, and resources, we empower individuals to care for their mental health while advancing the cause of environmental justice and sustainability. Position Overview We are seeking a volunteer Accountant to act as our Treasurer, providing strategic financial oversight for The Resilient Activist. This is a volunteer position, suitable for a CPA, finance professional, or graduate student with a strong interest in nonprofit financial management. The Accountant will assist in analyzing financial statements, reviewing revenue streams, advising on financial strategy, and ensuring long-term sustainability. Responsibilities: Review monthly and quarterly financial reports prepared by the Bookkeeper. Provide financial analysis of revenue, expenses, and cash flow. Offer strategic advice on financial planning, including budgeting and forecasting. Advise on cost-saving measures and opportunities for financial growth. Review and help set financial goals and priorities for The Resilient Activist. Collaborate with the Executive Director to ensure financial stability and the organization’s continued growth. Assist with year-end financial statements and preparation for annual audits. Preferred Qualifications: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and advise on financial data. Proficiency in accounting software Understanding of nonprofit financial management, including revenue generation, grants, and donations.
