Mission Statement
The mission of the Claire Bear Foundation is to enhance infant safety and reduce infant mortality through education and outreach regarding safe sleep practices; offer comprehensive family support; and address disparities in race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic factors to reduce the incidence of Sudden Unexplained Infant Death through both direct and indirect services.
Description
Located in Tacoma, the Claire Bear Foundation was established in memory of Claire, who tragically passed away from unsafe sleep at her child care in 2015. Our mission is to enhance infant safety and reduce infant mortality through education and outreach about safe sleep practices. We provide free cribs, sleep sacks, and pacifiers to families in need, and have funded a CPR simulation training room at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, contributing over $175,000 overall.
We also offer an annual high school scholarship at Foss High School, with nearly $30,000 awarded to date. Recognizing the burden of unexpected losses, we provide financial grants to help families cover medical bills and funeral expenses related to child loss.
Our foundation actively participates in community and national initiatives. We serve on the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department's Infant Fatality Review Committee, the AAP's National Collaborative for Safe Infant Sleep, and as a Cribs for Kids Advisory Member. We also help set national safety standards for infant products as an ASTM consumer advocate member.
