The Urban Community Empowerment Project Inc. (UCEP) is a 501c3, non-profit organization that provides FREE empowerment services to people living in urban communities. Our aim is to encourage and motivate self-esteem and self-determination for people who are striving to get to the next level in their lives. We believe in the potential for personal growth and positive life change. UCEP empowerment services include support groups, workshops, mentoring and one to one life coaching. UCEP is seeking to recruit board members for the organization. These positions are non-salary, volunteer positions. If you are someone who would like to make a difference in your community and have a passion to help people, our organization may be the place for you. UCEP board members have the unique opportunity to develop community activities in service areas they are personally passionate about. The organization supports community initiatives that empower and motivate positive life change and achievement. The commitment is to attend one board meeting each month and the desire to affect change in your community by creating community partnerships and participating in events and activities in your community. Community Engagement Liaison Building and maintaining relationships with community members and organizations to ensure that the organization is responsive to the needs and concerns of the community. Identifying and addressing community issues, and working with the organization to develop strategies and solutions that align with the community’s values and goals. Providing information and assistance to community members and organizations, answering questions and addressing concerns related to the organization’s activities or policies. Representing the organization at community events and meetings and facilitating communication and collaboration between the organization and the community. Gathering and analyzing feedback from the community and using it to inform the organization’s decisions and actions. Creating and implementing community engagement programs, such as workshops, surveys, and other initiatives to gather feedback and promote community participation. Identifying and building partnerships with other organizations and stakeholders in the community to promote collaboration and support for the community. Keeping community informed of the organization’s activities, plans and policies through various means of communication. Act as a liaison between the organization and community groups, such as schools, local government, and other community-based organizations. Act as a resource for community members, providing information and assistance as needed. Minimum Requirements and skills A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as social work, public administration, communications, or community development. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and organizations. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address community issues and develop solutions that align with the community’s values and goals. Familiarity with the community and its culture, history, and issues. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at once. Ability to think creatively and strategically, with the ability to develop and implement community engagement programs. Experience working with diverse communities and groups. Knowledge of community development principles, practices, and techniques. Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. Strong computer skills and proficiency with relevant software, such as Microsoft Office. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead teams, motivate others, and build consensus.
