Mission Statement
SPUR mobilizes volunteers in meaningful service and enrichment opportunities that support the tangible needs of our community. In striving to remove barriers to volunteering, SPUR provides a platform to cultivate a community of doers across the North Shore. We nurture the desire to make a difference.
Description
SPUR makes it easy to have a positive impact. Each of our volunteer opportunities meets a tangible need in our community, can be done in two hours or less, and is open to volunteers of all ages, regardless of experience or skill set. Our shifts are episodic, meaning you sign up when you are available without an ongoing commitment.
We partner with agencies in the area to provide support in providing food to those facing food insecurity. We do this in a variety of ways. Through our Food Rescue program, 7 times a week, you can pick up food from a local store that would otherwise be thrown out and deliver it to a local group home or food pantry. We have opportunities 11 times a month to make a meal at home for our Meal Program and deliver it to a local agency fighting food insecurity. We also have offer shifts to support local shelters to feed clients and shifts with local food pantries to distribute food. From the Spring to the Fall you can volunteer any day of the week to water, harvest or deliver food from Community Roots Garden providing partners with fresh vegetables.
Other opportunities include our Park & Beach Cleanups, sewing pillowcases that become Bundles of Cheer, filling backpacks with supplies for our Student Success Drive and sponsoring wish lists and wrapping winter essentials for our Holiday Cheer Drive.
