Mission Statement

Sojourn’s mission is to provide multi-faith care supporting people at their most vulnerable.

Description

Sojourn Chaplaincy has provided Multi-Faith Spiritual Care for Zuckerberg San Francisco General since 1982. Our organization was founded in response to the HIV/Crisis through an interfaith endeavor with the Episcopal Diocese of California. We started with a community chaplaincy program that educated and supervised volunteers to care for those affected by the epidemic. The community chaplaincy program grew to care for the entire hospital. Since then, we have grown into a robust Spiritual Care department providing innovative, comprehensive spiritual care to the patients, families, and staff of ZSFG with volunteer and professional chaplains. We serve the hospital through clinical chaplaincy, our community program, etc. During the Covid pandemic, we piloted the Code Lavender program, which provides care to hospital staff and crisis intervention stress management related to complicated clinical experiences.

Sojourn is a 501(c)3 organization in partnership with the city and county of San Francisco and the local Episcopal diocese. We are committed to serving the marginalized, including all people in SF, especially migrants, the undocumented, LGBTQ populations, people seeking reproductive healthcare, people dealing with substance use issues, other populations without health insurance, victims of violence and trauma, etc. Equity and justice are vital components of our mission, which calls us to provide innovative and comprehensive spiritual care for all those in need.
