Our funds are totally from private donations. All tasks are performed by volunteers; no one receives a salary. We seek volunteers to help us set up, register clients, provide support, and clean up at each of the monthly dances. A 3-4-hour monthly commitment requested.

Each monthly dance features a band or DJ, who donates their skills, playing music for dancing or listening pleasure, and refreshments, furnished by area churches or organizations at no cost to Jamboree. Additionally, we provide nominal gifts on occasion for the clients whom we serve.

The Jamboree, Established In March 1973 by Mack Williams, because his twin daughters with special needs dreamed of a place where they could dance and enjoyed themselves without fear of embarrassment. The group held its first dance at Tideland Mental Health Association in Washington, NC and continued to meet there until the facility was outgrown. It was then that the Red Men's Tau Tribe #18 IORM "adopted" the "Jamboree" and has since furnished a meeting place at their lodge each month. Now, 100-150 clients and caregivers attend at the monthly dances. Clients range in age from pre-teenagers to seniors and individuals and Group Home resident of Beaufort and surrounding counties are welcome.
