This vital role involves lobbying state legislators, monitoring legislation, drafting advocacy materials, and testifying at committee hearings to advance our mission of protecting civil liberties. Legislative Advocates will work closely with the Legislative Director and collaborate with policymakers, stakeholders, and community partners. Key Responsibilities: Advocate for civil liberties by lobbying state legislators and regulatory bodies. Draft policy proposals, position statements, and advocacy letters. Monitor and analyze legislation relevant to civil liberties and provide updates to the team. Testify at committee hearings and represent CCLA at legislative meetings. Build and maintain relationships with legislators, staff, and stakeholders. Assist in organizing and participating in advocacy campaigns and events. Qualifications: Background in law, politics, government, or related fields (preferred but not required). Strong communication and public speaking skills. Excellent research, writing, and analytical abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Passion for civil liberties and social justice. Availability on Tuesdays for legislative hearings and flexible hours as needed.
