Mission Statement

Local Outreach to Survivors of Suicide Team: Mission: Provides hope, community resources and support to those experiencing a loss through suicide, empowering survivors so they can thrive.

Description

Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition has a Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors Team. We are a community of hope and we would love for you to join us! Being invited to be part of another person's grief journey is a privilege. The LOSS Team offers hope to the bereaved as they navigate through unimaginable grief. The LOSS team has requirements in place such as an application, interview and a background check.. If a prospective volunteer has been impacted by a suicide loss, they should be at least two years out from that loss, although exceptions can be considered. We have specific training in place based on role. We ongoing support for all our volunteers and we emphasize the importance of self-compassion and self-care.

We host two community events each year. In September we hold a Remembrance Walk for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. In November, we have event on International Survivor of Suicide Loss Day.
Volunteer opportunities include on-call support, assembling resource bags, follow-up calls, writing cards, visiting local community partners, tracking data, support group facilitation and more.
