Not every patient has someone to offer consolation and companionship during their hospital stay. Being alone can lower morale, increase anxiety, and negatively impact the healing process, especially in children. The Pages of Wonder Volunteer Program was created to ensure no one goes a day without someone by their bedside. These dedicated volunteers turns the hospital room into a whimsical wonderland filled with boundless imagination and endless joy through books and activities. Essential Functions : Be res ponsible for checking in/out the tablet from Volunteer Services staff Offer and participate in distraction activities such as coloring, board games, arts & crafts, etc. Commplete tasks under the direction of the department staff as requested B e sensitive to the needs and feelings of the patient Refrain from activities that may cause a distraction, such as texting or use of other electronic devices Support UH’s mission, vision, and values Treat all customers with compassion, courtesy, dignity, respect, and professionalism

Not all patients have someone to visit with and comfort them during a hospital stay. Together we can change that. As a Compassionate Companion Volunteer, you can bring comfort to someone during a very trying time in their life. Without the support of volunteers like you, patients can experience low morale, increased anxiety, and a negatively impacted healing process. Be the difference! Together, we can ensure that no one goes a day without someone by their bedside. Maybe you or a loved one faced difficulty alone. Someone to offer compassion and concern during that time would have made all the difference. Be that someone and become a volunteer today. Availability: Monday - Sunday with 4-hour shifts between 8:30am and 8:00pm. There are many options to suit any schedule! Qualifications: You must be personable, have great customer service skills, patient, observant, and engaging. Additional training is required and provided by the Supportive Care Services staff. This volunteer position may require you to sit for extended periods of time.

You can brighten someone's day by volunteering with the University Health Care Cart Program. This initiative empowers volunteers to provide light snacks and refreshing water to patients and visitors in various waiting rooms, helping to create a more comfortable and supportive environment during their wait. Be a part of promoting comfort, reducing stress, and fostering a sense of community to those who need it the most! Essential Functions : Work under the direction of the Volunteer Services Coordinator Integrate compassion, respect and unconditional positive regard toward patients, visitors and staff Track and document inventory each shift Follow all hospital and volunteer policies and procedures Pick up cart with refreshments daily and replenish as needed Offer water and snacks to individuals in designated areas Maintain proper hand hygiene Perform other duties as necessary Take count of every interaction Distribute and collect survey Follow appropriate scripts for designated areas

But together we can change that. With the support of volunteers like you, visitors and patients can have a welcoming and informative experience. As a Volunteer Ambassador, you are often the first person visitors and patients see. You can help ease their hearts and minds by greeting them, answering questions, and wayfinding. This allows them to concentrate on what matters most - feeling better. Simply enter your information. Within two business days, we will send you a volunteer application.
