Mission Statement

Food to Power (FTP) is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to create, cultivate, and sustain a healthy and equitable food ecosystem in the greater Colorado Springs community. We expand local community access to fresh food and the positive health outcomes associated with a balanced diet. Our programming and services are intentionally designed to empower communities by transforming their access to nutritious, culturally-relevant foods and the education needed to joyfully grow, prepare, and consume them. We don’t just provide food, we create and cultivate resilient and equitable food ecosystem needed to end fresh, nutritious food insecurity in Colorado Springs.

Description

Food to Power connects food insecure community members in Colorado Springs with fresh food and the education needed to joyfully grow, prepare, and consume it. Our model is unique because it addresses each component of the food system, from seed to compost. Our program complements our model by addressing the root causes of food insecurity: food access, education, advocacy, and production. When combined, we are permanently ending fresh food insecurity and improving community health outcomes by creating, cultivating, and sustaining equitable food ecosystems.

Our flagship programs include:

  • Food Access: co-created with community members and focus on making healthy foods financially and physically accessible through direct redistribution services. Programs: Food Recovery, No Cost Grocery, No Cost Delivery, Street Petz
  • Food Education & Advocacy: combines FTP staff expertise and community knowledge to teach individuals of all ages to maximize the health and environmental benefits of growing, preparing, and eating healthy foods. Programs: Food-Systems Leadership for Youth Internship, Community Workshops, Street Team, Food Equity Research
  • Food Production: increase healthy food access by growing and teaching community members to grow fresh food. Programs: City-wide Composting, Urban Farm, Agricultural Community Workshops
