The National Technical Investigators' Association is seeking two individuals to serve on a new Investment Advisory Committee. Historically, NATIA's President and Treasurer have managed its finances with the guidance of an accounting firm, an audit firm, and a single investment advisor who facilitates the buying and selling of various investments. With an investment portfolio just over $4 million, the Board of Directors believes it would be in the best interest of the Association to seek independent, unbiased advice from a small group of financial professionals outside of the Association. NATIA is comprised of over 3,000 law enforcement, intelligence, and support personnel who provide electronic surveillance, technical operations, and scientific support for hundreds of federal, military, state, and local agencies across the United States and around the world. NATIA's members have access to the technical surveillance community’s top training, technology exhibits, networking, and support. As a member of the Investment Advisory Committee, you will be asked to participate in 2 or 3 video conference meetings per year. The committee will be chaired by NATIA's volunteer Treasurer who is a current member of NATIA's National Board of Directors. Qualified applicants for this position should have extensive experience in providing investment advice. Experience with investments for nonprofit associations is a plus. Committee members should have, or be able to develop, the following traits: Understand NATIA’s mission and have the investment skills required to implement a strategy that fulfills its mission. Understand NATIA’s investment objectives in terms of organizational goals and spending objectives. Understand the fiduciary responsibilities of serving on the committee. Have a clear understanding of why NATIA's investment portfolio holds each of its particular investments. Periodically review whether the portfolio investments are consistent with NATIA's goals. Understand what investment costs are being charged and if they are reasonable for the portfolio and the committee's standards. Analyze whether an investment manager’s style and philosophy fit the portfolio’s objective. Evaluate an investment manager based on multidimensional criteria, rather than exclusively on past performance. Make recommendations on retention and/or selection of an investment manager. Selection of committee members is at the sole discretion of the NATIA Treasurer.
