Organization Overview The Exploris School is an independent public charter school located in North Carolina. Our mission is to create a diverse learning community that engages students in a challenging, relevant, relationship-based education. Through experiential, project-based learning, we empower students to foster a just and sustainable world. Our vision is simple yet powerful: Empowering Learners to Improve Our World. Our Foundation is dedicated to fundraising and development efforts that support this mission and enhance educational opportunities for our students. We are currently preparing to launch a significant Capital Campaign to fund our upcoming campus consolidation project, which will further our ability to provide an innovative and impactful educational experience. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to serve as the Foundation Board Chair. This individual will spearhead our fundraising and development initiatives, with a particular focus on leading our upcoming Capital Campaign for campus consolidation. The Chair will work closely with the school Directors, Foundation Board members, and School Board members to secure resources that support our educational goals, infrastructure needs, and, ultimately, our mission to empower learners to improve our world. Key Responsibilities Lead the Foundation Board in setting strategic direction for fundraising and development efforts that align with The Exploris School's mission and vision Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies, with a primary focus on the Capital Campaign for campus consolidation while maintaining fundraising efforts for our Annual Fund Cultivate relationships with major donors, foundations, and community partners who share our commitment to innovative, experiential education Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns, including the Capital Campaign Collaborate with school leadership to identify funding priorities that support our project-based, relationship-based educational model Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations governing nonprofit organizations Represent the Foundation and The Exploris School's values in the community and at key events Guide the board in setting and achieving ambitious fundraising targets for the Capital Campaign and ongoing operational needs Qualifications Proven track record in nonprofit leadership, preferably in education or youth-focused organizations Extensive experience in fundraising, development, and donor relations, with particular emphasis on capital campaigns and annual funds Strong understanding of nonprofit governance and best practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to inspire and motivate board members, volunteers, and donors Strategic thinker with a passion for education and community development Experience in managing large-scale projects, preferably related to educational infrastructure or campus development Demonstrated commitment to diversity, sustainability, and innovative education models Desired Qualities Visionary leader with the ability to articulate and execute long-term strategies that support The Exploris School's mission Collaborative team player who can work effectively with diverse stakeholders Results-oriented professional with a track record of achieving ambitious fundraising goals Passionate advocate for public education, charter school initiatives, and experiential learning Ability to navigate complex projects and build consensus among various stakeholders Commitment to fostering a just and sustainable world through education Time Commitment This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 10 hours per month, including board meetings, committee work, and community engagement activities. Additional time may be required during key phases of the Capital Campaign.
