Mission Statement

MISSION: The ARK’s mission is to provide hope and relief to families living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. This is accomplished through social respite, caregiver support and consultation, community education, and mentoring underserved communities through the Neighborhood Outreach Alzheimer’s Help (NOAH) Project, in Dorchester, Charleston, Berkeley, Orangeburg, and Colleton counties. VISION: To create a self-sustaining program to meet the growing need for Alzheimer’s/dementia support until a cure is found

Description

Since January 1996, The ARK has provided hope and relief to families living with ADRD. through respite care, support groups, education, caregiver consultations, resource referrals, and community development. We preserve dignity, empower and respect individuals, and help people with memory issues continue to participate in their community. The ARK provides comprehensive services for individuals with ADRD, their caregivers, and the broader community to support sustainable Dementia-Friendly communities. Innovative programming includes social respite care for persons with ADRD and multiple programs for caregivers (evidence-based training, support groups, one-on-one consultations) which are essential to overcoming knowledge and socio-economic barriers and providing a comprehensive base of support. In the community, The ARK offers education for law enforcement and first responders to understand ADRD for managing public and private calls for help. For the public, we provide educational group talks, workplace lunch & learns, and memory and health screenings. Through the Neighborhood Outreach Alzheimer's Help (NOAH) program, we mentor rural communities helping them develop respite care, training classes, and support groups.
