About Us The Southern BBQ Network (SBN) is a vibrant community of BBQ enthusiasts in the Carolinas. With 250 members and a $20,000 annual budget, we promote BBQ culture, support charities, and sanction BBQ Competitions. Role Overview We're seeking a passionate Volunteer Membership Director to grow and engage our community of BBQ lovers. Key Responsibilities 1. Develop and implement membership recruitment and retention strategies 2. Manage member database and communications 3. Create engaging content for newsletters, web site, and social media 4. Organize member recruiting events such as training classes and networking opportunities 5. Collaborate with the board to align membership activities with SBN's vision 6. Leadership Opportunity: Play a key role in the organization's leadership team, influencing its direction and growth. Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and financially savvy volunteer to serve as CFO/Treasurer for the Southern BBQ Network. This role is crucial in managing our organization's financial health and integrity as we pursue our mission of promoting BBQ culture and supporting charitable causes. Location Requirement The successful candidate must reside in the greater Charleston, SC, area. Due to the nature of the role and its responsibilities, we are unable to consider candidates from outside this region. Key Responsibilities 1. Financial Management - Oversee the organization's financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting - Manage bank accounts and maintain accurate financial records - Prepare and present financial reports at board meetings and the annual general meeting 2. Budgeting and Planning - Develop and monitor the annual budget in collaboration with the board - Provide financial insights to inform strategic decision-making - Forecast financial trends and recommend actions to ensure financial sustainability 3. Compliance and Reporting - Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and tax requirements - Oversee the preparation and filing of necessary financial documents, including tax returns - Maintain proper financial controls and procedures 4. Event Financial Support - Assist in financial planning and budgeting for BBQ contests and charitable events - Manage cash handling procedures for events, ensuring security and accuracy - Reconcile event finances and prepare post-event financial reports 5. Membership and Donations - Oversee the collection and recording of membership dues - Manage the processing and acknowledgment of donations - Work with the board to develop strategies for increasing revenues and managing expenses Qualifications - Strong financial acumen and experience in accounting or financial management - Familiarity with nonprofit financial management and regulations (preferred) - Prior experience working with small nonprofits (preferred) - Excellent organizational and analytical skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel - Experience with QuickBooks (preferred) - Proficiency in other financial software and spreadsheet applications - Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial audiences - Commitment to the mission and values of the Southern BBQ Network - Must reside in the greater Charleston, SC area - A love of BBQ or a strong desire to learn more about BBQ culture and competition Time Commitment This volunteer position requires approximately 10-15 hours per month, with increased activity during budget preparation, tax season, and at major events. Social Media Strategy - Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy - Create engaging content across various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) - Analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies accordingly 3.
