Our board meets 6 times a year and helps oversee the mission and fiscal stabilty of our organization. We are looking for people who are inspired to help young adults with intlellectual/developmental disabilities have a voice and build a life. We recognize that just because someone isn't ready for a job in their 20s doesn't mean they will never have a job. We believe in the power of YET - they don't have the skills YET, they don't have the experience YET. StarThrower Group was formed to bring people together, provide opportunities for learning and connecting that help build relationships, introduce opportunities, and encourage members to keep learning and looking toward the future. We are not a day habilitation program, we are a community center that provides opportunities for our clients to be treated as adults and given options and choices. If they aren't ready to work, we help them continue with training and learning so they can keep trying. If they are not ready to live on their own, we help them continue to practice skills and safety so independent living can be a part of their future. Adults with disabilities deserve more options than coloring and puzzles. If they are willing to work toward their goals, we are willing to support their dreams. This is where a strong board comes in - helping champion donations and sponsorships, and raise awareness about inclusion and supportive communities.

Help with initial setup and organization of our library, including database for check in/out, and shelving/labeling. Help volunteers sort book donations into keep, sell, donate. Create seasonal book features/displays to encourage people to try new books. Participate in our BookShare Club and talk about the current book you are reading and learn about what members are reading. Reshelve books, keep library organized and cozy.

Organization Information
Mission Statement
Established in 2018 to build inclusive communities, inspire careers, and make the connections for a successful and happy adult life for young adults with special needs.
Description
We run a community center that is a hub for connecting young adults with mild intellectual/developmental disabilities to the community. Our aim is to be person-centered, allowing our members the independence and respect of making their daily schedule and choosing how they want to spend their day. Members are all going through the transition from HS to adult life, and we provide workshops and support to help them achieve their goals and build a life of purpose in their community.
