Mission Statement
It is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition throughout the world and providing disaster relief; all without discrimination. Our vision is to provide industry-leading food relief to those in need.
Description
Midwest Food Bank was founded in 2003 in Illinois. After identifying a need in their community, David Keiser and his family turned their barn into a distribution center for local food banks, gathering excess food from several sources to distribute. MFB began expanding in 2005 after contributing to disaster relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina. MFB Georgia was founded in 2011 after realizing that there should be a presence in the southeast part of the United States where several types of natural disasters were common. Along with providing disaster relief, MFB Georgia simultaneously addresses the immense amount of food waste in our country and the significant number of those experiencing food insecurity. We utilize volunteers to rescue food and partner with nonprofits to provide for the hungry at zero cost to those serving the individuals and families in need of help. Our fleet of trucks driven by volunteer drivers picks up donated food from across the country that has been produced in excess, incorrectly labeled, or slightly damaged but usable. Donated food comes from food manufacturers, food distribution centers, grocery stores, private food drives, and local farmers. We accomplish our mission through our partnerships with over 230 nonprofit partners who must agree to give the food free of charge. These agencies need a reliable food source to distribute to the hungry and food insecure individuals they serve. Our nonprofit partners are experts on feeding hungry people, and Midwest Food Bank Georgia efficiently enables them to do so.
