THE OPPORTUNITY Have a passion for hiking, exploring new trails, and planning adventures? Join us as a Seasonal Hiking Group Leader (Fall: Oct-Dec) for our W.I.L.D. Love(TM) Adventure Ministry - a wellness program pairing hiking and green exercise with self-love principles. You will help participants develop adversity resilience by actively reframing negative self-talk as you guide them to navigate trails in Austin, TX, and nearby areas. HIKING TEAM ROLES Program Director - has overall responsibility for the hiking group. Hike Coordinator - creates the seasonal schedule and tracks attendance at all hikes. Can be a virtual role. Hike Planner - Recommends and plans a single hike. Group Leader (YOU) - Leads one hiking group on the day of the hike. Group Sweep - Hikes last in the group and keeps a count of the hikers. Photographer/Videographer - Takes photos and videos during the hike. Social Host - Plans the after hike social. Social Media Strategist - revolutionizes our digital presence and grows our brand following. Webmaster - Designs and manages style, content, performance, and technical upkeep of website. HIKING GROUP LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES The Group Leaders have the primary responsibility of leading the group of hikers through the hike safely and ensuring that all hikers return to their cars at the end of the hike. Specific responsibilities are: Communicate with the Hike Coordinator and Hike Planner to understand the route of the planned hike. Serve as point of contact for hikers on the day of hike (e.g. driving directions, etc.). Select a Sweep for the hike. Lead one hike per week on Saturday or Sunday. Ensure hikers complete all safety procedures before, during, and after the hike. Set a pace appropriate for the group of hikers. Engage participants in positive discussions during the hike. Ensure that emergency procedures are followed in cases of an emergency. This is your primary responsibility and it should be taken seriously. Have fun! (Virtual) HIKE PLANNER RESPONSIBILITIES The Hike Planner works with the Coordinator to plan and ensure that each hike proceeds smoothly. The Hike Planner responsibilities include: Pre-view the hike to ensure that the proposed route is known and available. Ensure that all group leaders understand the route to be taken and provide maps if needed. Complete a hike description by Wednesday before the hike and forward it to the Seasonal Hike Coordinator and the Webmaster. Directions to Parking area - be specific, especially when the hike is new. (If also participating in the hike) Introduce the hike and the leaders at the start of the hike. Organize the hikers into the groups. Specific responsibilities are: Communicate with the Hike Coordinator and Hike Planner to understand the route of the planned hike. Coordinate with the Hike Group Leader on the day of the hike. Participate and document one hike per week on Saturday or Sunday, Document the after-hike social. Catalogue captured photos and videos for Social Media Coordinator and Webmaster to use. Bring story ideas to the Program Director and Social Media Coordinator. May assist Social Media Coordinator with creating reels, stories, ads, or simple social media posts. Ensure that emergency procedures are followed in cases of an emergency. Have fun! HIKE COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES A Seasonal Hike Coordinator will be selected for each season of hikes (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter). The Seasonal Hike Coordinator is responsible for designing the hike schedule and working with the Hike Planner to ensure a smooth-running hike season. Specific responsibilities include: Reporting the status of the Hike Plan to the Program Director. Creating a calendar for the 3 month season in collaboration with the Hike Planner. Ensure the hike calendar is reviewed, approved, and ready for distribution at least two weeks before the beginning of the new season. Tracking each hike and attendance during the season. Communicating any hike relocation or changes. On the day of the hike, must decide and announce any cancellation of the hike due either: Lightning or other weather emergency at the time of the hike. Unforeseen difficulties with the hike, including missing permits or permissions.
