Description
The challenges faced by people in South Asia, particularly those living in the Himalayas, are immense, compounded by harsh realities of natural disasters like earthquakes, landslides, avalanches and glacial floods. Among the most vulnerable are women and children who often suffer disproportionately in the aftermath of such events.
The devastation caused by these disasters can result in the loss of homes, livelihoods, and tragically the loss of loved ones, leaving many children orphaned and homeless. They become easy targets for exploitation by human traffickers, further exacerbating their plight.
By strategically placing trained individuals at border transit points, we are able to intercept trafficking in real time, preventing victims from being exploited.
Victims intercepted at the borders are reunited with their families whenever possible. Rescued from exploitative situations, victims are repatriated to safe environments, and provided with the necessary resources, access to education and support to begin the healing process.
Prioritizing the care of vulnerable groups such as orphaned, abandoned and impoverished children ensures they receive the support and resources needed to thrive.
By empowering women with soft skills training and creating job opportunities, AFI addresses the root causes of poverty and helps individuals break free from cycles of exploitation.
