Luminary Hospice is seeking veterans to share time with hospice patients who are veterans. Who better to reminisce and share common experiences than another veteran? An hour of your time will brighten the day of another veteran. Visits are scheduled at times and locations convenient for you. Veterans have a special connection with each other--share that with a hospice patient. Volunteer orientations are offered each month (or at a time that works for you) so that you are informed about hospice, its services, and opportunities to support patients through our volunteer program. Greeting visitors, answering phones, filing, and other in-office tasks are among the various needs to support our hospice program. To keep Luminary Hospice at the top of our game, volunteers help the office run smoothly. Luminary Hospice is seeking volunteers to help with their Bereavement program, supporting families of hospice patients who have died in the past year. Volunteers play a significant role in the bereavement process for our families by managing administrative tasks and projects as well as making phone calls to families and helping with the annual memorial service for the bereaved. Volunteers may schedule time to help as it suits their calendars. Luminary Hospice provides bereavement support services to its patients, and to families for thirteen months following the death of their loved one. Pre-bereavement helps patients and families understand the hospice process and the available support, while the more than a year of bereavement services to families provides education, one-on-one support, and memorial services to help with grief and loss. You are invited to join our team of outstanding volunteers! Luminary Hospice is seeking volunteers to sit with patients in their last hours. Vigil volunteers provide comfort--for the patient as well as family and caregivers--simply by being present in the patient's last hours. Volunteers may play appropriate music or read patient's favorite poems or scripture, or they may sit quietly beside the patient. This time is special, as a patient may be unresponsive but likely aware of the presence of a friend in the room. Vigil volunteers bring an additional level of comfort at the end of the patient's life. Vigil volunteers provide their availability to the Luminary Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, schedule time(s) convenient for them, and spend as much time as they choose with a patient.
