Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower Illinois voters to be heard, supported, and represented by improving freedom and fairness in our elections through ranked choice voting (RCV).
Description
Incorporated in 2020, FairVote Illinois is a non-partisan, non-profit organization focused on bringing ranked choice voting to Illinois and creating a more representative democracy through electoral reform. Ranked choice voting allows voters to rank candidates in order of their preference and ensures that one candidate receives a majority of the votes. This allows voters voices to be heard without the fear of their vote going to waste. It also gives voters more choices on the ballot, promotes representation, and discourages negative campaigning.
Our current winner-take-all system robs us of real choice. It's time for voting reform, and through community outreach and collaboration with civic leaders, we increase awareness and support for ranked choice voting. Thanks to the hard work from all of our volunteers, partner organizations, and thousands of voters, we helped make Evanston become the first city in IL to officially adopt ranked choice voting for all local elections. We are paving the way for voting reform and are committed to making every vote count.
