Mission Statement
At The Integrated Athletic Initiative, we are committed to bringing new and unique sports experiences to special needs and underserved communities. Founded with a mission to ensure that all youth, regardless of their abilities or background, have the opportunity to enjoy the physical, mental, and social benefits of sports, we create inclusive and empowering sports programs that foster growth, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
Description
The Integrated Athletic Initiative was established in 2021 with a vision to empower youth in our community through the transformative power of sports. The organization was founded by Sal Fabozzi, a former Division 1 basketball coach, and Anthony Passalacqua, a former teacher with the New York Department of Education. Both Sal and Anthony have deep roots in Staten Island, New York, and have long recognized how sports can positively impact the lives of young adults.
Our program prides itself on exposing young adults to new sports and broadening their life experiences. By introducing them to sports they may have never encountered before, we help them develop new skills, gain confidence, and enhance their social and life skills.
The Integrated Athletic Initiative has evolved from organizing a single basketball league for special needs young adults to offering a diverse array of sports, including soccer, track and field, golf, and more. As the organization expanded, so did its mission, extending its reach to underserved communities that lacked adequate access to sports programs. Today, our programs are designed to be inclusive, ensuring that every young person, regardless of background, has the chance to participate, grow, and thrive through athletics.
