Description
The Community Action Council of Portage County is a private non-profit corporation, which operates with an independent Governing Board. It was established in 1965 as a result of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 and certified as the official anti-poverty agency for Portage County. Subsequent revisions to the Act and the implementation of the Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) as amended extended the authority for appropriation of program funds. The primary goals of the agency as stipulated in its Articles of Incorporation and additional documents are to plan, formulate, operate and administer programs designed to bring about the permanent economic upgrading of the poor. In Ohio, the cognizant funding agency for all anti-poverty or CSBG activities is the Ohio Development Services Agency, Office of Community Assistance.
