Mission Statement
Animal Rights Initiative (ARI) is a pioneering 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to conserving our natural biodiversity and ending animal suffering through a multifaceted approach. The ARI promise is to combine government, community and corporate outreach to achieve our goals of legislative protections and corporate policy changes. Our focus is on animals in captivity on factory farms and breeding mills.
Description
Animal Rights Initiative began in 2017 by a group of Seattle based volunteers hungry for change and determined to get it. We have indefatigably organized hundreds of educational events across the United States. Beginning in 2020, we expanded our focus to include legislative actions to prevent cruelty to animals and in 2024, successfully passed the world's first octopus protection bill and a cruelty-free cosmetics mandate in Washington state.
Our current legislative goals include expanding the octopus farming bans to as many coastal states in the U.S., as possible, and to ban the use of exotic animals in traveling acts, ban the retail sale of small mammals as pets, ban on the sale of force-fed foie gras, and sale of fur in Washington state.
