Mission Statement
Biyani House opened its doors in January 2022 to provide an inclusive, culturally aware safe place for women experiencing domestic and family abuse and at risk of homelessness. Our crisis accommodation for women and children impacted by domestic and family abuse supports them as they gain independence and heal from trauma. Our shelter is located in Canterbury-Bankstown local government area, but serves women and children from across NSW.
Description
Since opening our doors in January 2022 we have provided over 5,763 bed nights of crisis accommodation to 57 women and 60 children. We have also supported another 193 women through outreach and assistance support.
In the face of persistent demand for our services, the Biyani House team confronts the gravity of Australia’s domestic and family violence crisis daily. Our shelter has remained at full capacity throughout 2023 and 2024, underscoring the critical need for increased crisis accommodation for women and children seeking safety.
However, for every 2 woman we accommodate, we have to turn away 7 due to a lack of space and facilities.
