Mission Statement

Carolyn Dorfman Dance (CDD) is dedicated to the creation and presentation of innovative contemporary dance that explores the trials and triumphs of the human story and reveals the individual uniqueness and ultimate commonality of the human experience. CDD opens dialogues between artists and audience. Through the performance, immersive teaching residencies and community engagement we call, DEPTH: Dance (that) Empowers People To (be more) Human, Carolyn Dorfman Dance utilizes the power of this dynamic art form to entertain, educate, enlighten, and engage with communities to uplift the spirt, build human understanding, break down barriers, foster empathy, compassion and inspire societal change through shared artistic experiences.

Description

Through the creation of new work, live performance, education, and community programs, Carolyn Dorfman Dance explores the trials and triumphs of the human story through the powerful choreography of Carolyn Dorfman and her diverse artistic collaborators. The dances are joyful, whimsical, sensual, powerful, and beautifully executed by a stunning, multi-ethnic company of dancers who breathe life and meaning into the vision of each work. Our long history is a journey of growth, change, and innovation. Our one-of-a-kind dance experiences open dialogue and create bridges between artist, audience, and each other. Move Human captures the focus, depth, and breadth of the company’s artistic, educational, and community programming.

Touring nationally and internationally, the company appears at major theaters, festivals, universities, and non-traditional performance venues. From New York City to Houston, Miami to Chattanooga, and more, Carolyn and Company see dance as a powerful and joyous vehicle for human expression, social action, and change. Multiple tours to Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina have been supported by The Trust for Mutual Understanding, U.S. Arts International, and the U.S. State Department. This is contemporary dance that moves people to connect to our humanity, to build empathy, and to overcome barriers together through the power of dance.
