Mission Statement

Tacoma Community House, a non-profit agency related to the United Methodist Church, works with and advocates for individuals from various cultural and ethnic groups to improve the quality of their lives through education, employment, and multilingual assistance.

Tacoma Community House is a place where success begins for thousands of different people in the Pierce County community. English classes are taught daily to limited English speakers who come to this country as immigrants and refugees. The Outreach program provides skilled and caring interpreters to help immigrants and refugees who are often baffled by complex and confusing laws, and the paperwork that follows. Adult Basic Education classes and one-on-one tutoring are offered to all undereducated adults who seek to improve their skills, education level, and their lives. Job placement services are available to help people get off public assistance and into living wage jobs so that they can provide for their families and feel good about themselves.

I hired this organization to do diversity training for library staff - the workshop was very well received. I also asked them to do a similar, shorter program for no fee and they were happy to help - this program was also well received. They're well organized, spend their resources effectively, and do great work in our community!
