Mission Statement
Essentials First empowers dignity daily and strengthens community-wide wellness by providing and advocating for equitable access to essential personal and household hygiene supplies, as well as culturally appropriate food assistance.
Description
Essentials First is a 501(c)3 non-profit providing and advocating for essential hygiene access in NW Washington. We do this by distributing hygiene kits free of charge to community members who need them from our four locations in Bellevue, Redmond, Seattle, and Kent. Many of the families and individuals we provide supplies to are low or no income, immigrants or refugees, surviving or recovering from domestic violence, unhoused/underhoused, unemployed/underemployed, elderly, multigenerational, or disabled. Supplies are purchased with donated funds or donated from volunteer-led hygiene drives, packed by volunteers, and distributed directly to community members by Essentials First staff. We also advocate at local, County, State, and Federal levels for policy-level solutions to hygiene poverty and volunteers have regular opportunities to engage in advocacy as well as direct service programming.
