Mission Statement

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue (SoCo) is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and re-homes abused, unwanted and abandoned dogs and puppies. We are a no-kill shelter and are committed to offering every dog medical care, healing and a loving home. The physical rescue is located in rural Georgia and each month dogs are transported to central New Jersey. Volunteers eagerly meet the bus and offer foster homes and adoption events.

Description

SoCo Rescue is located in rural Georgia where poverty is rampant and there are no services for unwanted dogs. Dogs and puppies are often abandoned or worse. We have been working since 2001 with many volunteers in NJ to rescue dogs and puppies and get them into good homes. You can see countless stories about our efforts on Facebook and Instagram and if you are not on the socials, the SoCo Youtube channel has rescue stories and more. Southern Comfort Animal Rescue (SoCo) is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and the only people who receive salaries are those who care for the dogs 24/7 365 days a year. Since 2014, our dogs have been coming to central NJ either by bus or by plane (www.fly-up's.org). As of 2024, more than 3000 dogs have been adopted into loving homes. Our volunteers are a committed, supportive and fun-loving community of people dedicated to saving as many dogs as possible. We are in need of more volunteers to help with the dogs but also for social media, event planning and grant writing.

I have been volunteering for Southern Comfort Animal Rescue for several years fostering dogs, helping at adoption events and participating in fundraisers. I have to say nothing in my life has been more rewarding! I love seeing the dogs come off the bus frightened and unsure and then seeing them come to life as they learn to live in a home. The volunteers are very friendly and supportive and we often have a good time at fundraising events. I would recommend if you want a meaningful and enjoyable volunteer experience.
