Description
Music Has Healing Power (MHHP) was founded in 2018 to provide music as a form of healing, therapy, and reduction of isolation for people recovering from chronic or terminal conditions in medical settings. The goal of MHHP is to provide music and instruments to people in medical and social service settings as a way to reduce anxiety, stress, isolation, and fear for people experiencing traumatic experiences. Since its founding, MHHP has served over 400 people.
From the grueling experience of watching his wife manage her cancer diagnosis over the years, Bruce Lowe founded MHHP, as an extension of healing and connection for people recovering from their trauma and hardships, often resulting from medical needs. MHHP started in Shriner’s Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, and has since expanded to over 30 hospitals across Southern California, multiple states, and parts of Mexico.
MHHP was developed from the research on the power music has as a force for healing, when combined with traditional medicine and therapeutic practices. MHHP established music rooms in Shriner’s Hospitals, provided instruments to people confined in long-term medical settings, and shared music as an uplifting mechanism for improved mental and physical well-being. MHHP has also provided support to people who have been sexually exploited, veterans, and people in rehabilitation for drug use.
