Mission Statement

The greatest ongoing tragedy in South Sudan is the waste of human potential; tens of thousands of intelligent, hard working, ambitious youth graduate high school each year and do not continue with their education due to lack of financial ability to pay for college. Scholarship opportunities in South Sudan are virtually non-existent with the exception of our program. Without a viable way of earning a living and lacking a bigger picture perspective that comes from a college education, many youth are recruited into armed gangs who steal cows, abduct children, and engage in retaliatory inter-tribal violence. Our mission is to give hard working, ambitious, and talented youth the opportunity to better their lives and the lives of their communities in South Sudan through the opportunity to earn a college degree.

Description

Padoc Area Scholars Society (PASS) is a college scholarship program for youth who are residents of the Apuk Padoc and Murle communities of South Sudan, two of the most impoverished communities within what is rated by Global Finance Magazine as the poorest country in the world. Our goal is to expand our program from the Apuk Padoc and Murle communities to eventually include ALL CITIZENS OF SOUTH SUDAN. We will need additional funding in order to make this very important goal feasible. After three years since the inception of PASS, we have made it possible for 108 youth to begin college! We make special efforts to recruit and award scholarships to young women.
