Mission Statement

The ALLICE Collective for Mental Health & Community Engagement is committed to improving the mental and emotional well-being of the Black diaspora by fostering community connections and providing holistic, culturally competent therapy services. Our vision is a world where all Black communities have safe spaces to BREATHE, CONNECT, and GROW.

Description

The ALLICE Collective for Mental Health & Community Engagement, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Houston, Texas, was established in 2021 in response to the growing need for increased community connections and engagement following the effects of long-term isolation during the pandemic. The lack of in-person support options prompted the establishment of programs aimed at fostering personal growth and healing through direct, face-to-face interactions.

Our services include the following: weekly in-person support groups, specialized groups catering for Black teens, psychotherapy services, graduate student internship program, parent respite program (starting August 2024), social engagement events, and community-building workshops and presentations to further extend our reach and impact.

At the heart of our mission is the belief in the transformative power of relationships. We prioritize the cultivation of safe spaces that promote acceptance, trust, and understanding, recognizing their role in combating systemic racism and promoting resilience. The benefits of our approach extend beyond mental health, encompassing economic empowerment, cultural preservation, and improved overall well-being.

The ALLICE Collective's focus on community stems from acknowledging the historical traumas and systemic injustices that impacts mental health in Black communities. However, through unity, resilience, and strong community ties, we harness the inherent strength to foster community healing and growth.
