Mission Statement
Integral Yoga Institute is a spiritual oasis of peace, and an Ashram, in the heart of the West Village. As a non-profit organization, we exist to serve our community through sharing the practice and teachings of yoga as taught by Sri Swami Satchidananda--whether someone comes for one class or chooses to join our residential ashram. These teachings help one to realize their full potential by facilitating an easeful body, a peaceful mind, a useful life, and ultimately, the realization of one’s true Self. We promote equity by offering a welcoming environment for people of all races, faiths, ages, gender identities, and sexual orientations to enjoy the benefits of a yoga practice. Our goal is to promote peace in the individual, as well as harmony and understanding in the world.
Description
Integral Yoga (r) International helped pioneer the introduction of Yoga to the western world over 50 years ago. Yoga master Swami Satchidananda came to New York and shared his teachings, which promote an easeful body, a peaceful mind, and a useful life. He taught that selfless service and interfaith understanding were essential for a peaceful world.On October 7, 1966, the Integral Yoga Institute of New York was founded in Manhattan. Today, there are over 30 Integral Yoga Institutes and Centers on six continents, with international headquarters at Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville (r)in Virginia, USA.The Integral Yoga global community includes over 20,000 Integral Yoga teachers and Yoga therapists-many of whom have become leaders in the changing paradigm of modern Yoga and healthcare, as well as founding successful programs for specific populations.
