Overview Not Defined By FND is a nonprofit organization on a mission to end stigma and bring awareness, advocate for research and treatments, and create conversations to bring needed changes and hope for all FND warriors. We believe that building local partnerships and fostering community support are key to advancing our mission and amplifying our impact. As the Volunteer Community Engagement Coordinator, you will focus on increasing awareness of our organization at the local level. This includes forging relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders, as well as coordinating outreach efforts and initiatives to expand our visibility and support. Key Responsibilities Local Outreach: Identify and engage with local businesses, community groups, and organizations to build partnerships and support for Not Defined By FND’s mission. Distribute promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, and posters to raise awareness in the local community. Awareness Campaigns: Assist with local awareness events, such as educational workshops, information booths, and fundraising activities. Collaborate with team members to tailor campaigns that resonate with local audiences. Partnership Building: Develop and nurture relationships with local businesses and organizations to secure sponsorships, in-kind donations, and event collaborations. Work with local media outlets to feature the organization’s work and impact in the community. Qualifications Location: Must be in Wilmington, NC or surrounding area. Skills and Experience: Experience in community outreach, marketing, or event planning is a plus. Strong interpersonal and networking skills. Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with diverse audiences. Comfortable using basic digital tools for organizing outreach efforts (e.g., email, social media, spreadsheets). Personal Attributes: Passionate about raising awareness and advocating for FND warriors. Friendly, approachable, and able to build relationships quickly. Self-motivated and organized, with a focus on achieving measurable goals. Time Commitment Flexible schedule, approximately 5-10 hours per week. Position: Research Paper/Article Writer Responsibilities: Research and write articles on topics related to FND, based on provided guidelines. Suggest and develop new topics for articles that align with our mission. Ensure all content is well-researched, accurate, and adheres to our quality standards. Collaborate with our team to edit and refine articles. Qualifications: Strong writing and research skills. Interest in health topics, particularly the brain and the nervous system. Ability to work independently. Students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply; this is a great opportunity to build your portfolio and resume. Previous writing or research experience is not required, but attention to detail and a willingness to learn are essential. Familiarity with APA format is preferred. About Us: Not Defined By FND is a newly founded (April 2024) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending stigma, raising awareness, advocating for research and treatments, and fostering conversations to bring necessary change and hope for all individuals affected by Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, we empower those impacted by FND and work to ensure a more informed and supportive society. Volunteer Role: We are seeking passionate and dedicated volunteers to support our advocacy and research initiatives. As a Nonprofit Policy & Compliance Volunteer, you will play a vital role in ensuring our organization remains compliant with laws and regulations, developing petitions, and assisting with policy and procedure creation to drive meaningful change for the FND community. As we are new and are still learning the rules and regulations of the nonprofit world, we need someone who can help to ensure we maintain compliance. Responsibilities: Research laws, regulations, and policies relevant to nonprofit compliance and FND advocacy. Assist in drafting and reviewing petitions to influence legislative and policy changes. Support the creation of organizational policies and procedures to ensure legal and operational compliance. Help develop policies for the organization, including website terms/conditions, store policies, and other necessary documentation. Compile and analyze data to strengthen advocacy efforts. Collaborate with team members to develop educational materials for community awareness. Engage in outreach efforts to connect with policymakers, researchers, and healthcare professionals. Qualifications: Experience with policy research, legal studies, or nonprofit compliance (preferred but not required). Passionate about advocating for individuals affected by Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Strong research and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar tools.
